Updates

Cascade hops are growing strong and out of control.
Hallertau

I have to keep trimming new shoots, like a barber has to keep a bad Jose Canseco mullet in check. The Hallertau is two feet tall, but it's thin and needs to establish roots. This is the same for the Cascade transplant. Warm, consistent weather should help.

I cut a bine off of the Sterling to create less competition for sunlight and nutrients between the two bines. Hopefully this works.

I also have began to notice that bugs are eating some of the leafs...any suggestions? I am using Cypress Mulch which is supposed to be a sort natural deterrent.

Make a spray bottle mixture of water and soap. Spray the leafs on top and on bottom once a day for a while. Bugs are going to eat at the plants no matter what. The soap is supposed to help deter. The best thing is for proper hop conditions. If the hop is growing fast, the bugs won't be able to keep up. Also is you see a leaf this is pinched together, there are bugs creating webs. those are the ones that pose the biggest problems.
